Wear Jeans for Bears Day 2

Wear Jeans for Bears Day, Part 2 was a HUGE success! Money was still coming in until the very end of the day, and we ended up raising more than what we had hoped to raise! The final total has not been counted yet, but at last count we were over $2,450! What a success!

Hopefully everyone is fully enjoying their first official day off from school, and you are getting your tummies ready for some delicious turkey on Thanksgiving!

Don't forget to get started on your creative writing assignment and to choose an independent reading book! You need to have read the whole book and be ready to write a report about it when you get back to school on Monday.

Enjoy your time off- watch some movies and vedge out, enjoy your family time, and remember to be thankful for all of the wonderful blessings in your lives.

Wear Jeans for Bears Day 1

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
Margaret Mead

Today we proved this quote to be true. What a success our first day of Wear Jeans for Bears was!!

Out grand total for the day was $1,201.97!!

Amazing job, guys. Well done. Now we need to motivate our school to do it again next week so that we may meet our goal of $2,400 for three hundred bears!

Have I told you lately how awesome you all are?

The Power of Rumor

So today was a bit exciting at the end of the day for some of us...

Rumors of a bomb threat in downtown Princeton had the streets blocked off and several people worked up into a frenzy. We had no idea anything was going on until the very end of the day, as students were being quickly ushered out the door and into their cars at the end of the day. All after-school activities were cancelled and all of the parents were called.

In a span of only a few minutes, I heard a whole host of different versions of what was allegedly going on in town. From the top to the bottom, stories included such drama as a bomb actually going off at Mediterra restaurant to an additional missing bomb that hadn't yet been found.
I even at one point heard "massive explosions" from a certain person at the top...

Isn't it amazing how rumors can travel and grow and manifest themselves so quickly?

In reality, what happened was that there was a bomb threat phoned into the police early this morning. The police have, as of now, found nothing, and there was never an explosion of any kind.

I would be the last person to knowingly put my wonderful people in danger, but I often wonder about the necessity of extreme reactions to rumors when often the case is such that people are very misinformed.

A wonderful allegory for rumor and hysteria is the image of a feather pillow being emptied into the wind. Each feather flies in a different way and lands in a different place.

Great Week!

Today was the last day of the Marking Period, and the results are in! Grades will continue to be tallied and recorded into next week and report cards are scheduled to go out at the end of the week. Keep your eye out.

Jenny Silver's visit was motivating and heartfelt. It is really amazing to see a young person who is so motivated to help other kids!

Next week, Marking Period 2 begins, and we will be talking to each of the Homerooms about our Wear Jeans for Bears Days.

Something to think about- how can we motivate the students of The Lewis School to raise the money all by themselves, rather than just ask their parents for the eight dollars? Isn't it more meaningful if people donate their own hard-earned money instead of their parents'? Let's think about suggestions for the kids in the rest of the school...
